Howell and his parents migrated to Rusk County, Texas between 1860 and 1873. John G. Howell married Willie A. Kimbrel on January 16, 1873, in Rusk County.
The 1900 census shows the John G. Howell family living near Henderson, Texas.
Their children in 1900 were Robert, Charley, Henry, Minnie, Alma, Livy, Willie, and Lee. The census shows that John G. Howell was a farmer renting his place.
The 1910 census shows that the John G. Howell family living at Mt. Enterprise, Texas. The census shows that John G. is a night watchman at the sawmill. It is likely that he was also farming.
The 1920 census shows the John G. Howell family still living in Mt. Enterprise, Texas. It shows his wife, Willie, son, Charley, daughter Willie A., and a granddaughter, Katherine Russell. The census shows that Jogn G. is a farmer and owns his farm.
John G. Howell's wife, Willie, died August 11, 1926, at the age of 70. John G. Howell died February 17, 1939, at the age of 87. Both are buried, as well as daughter Livy Brothers and son Charley, at Oldtown Cemetery near Mt. Enterprise, Texas.
