[WILL OF THE SENIORS OF '36
- title missing]
Friends and classmates, we the class of '36, about to leave, salute you. Only at the request of my classmates have I consented to read to you our will. I was persuaded to this action by the unusual circumstances of my class. I dread to tell you but be calm; the doctor is here ready to revive all who faint but he cannot attend too many. Here is my secret. Keep it well. A consultation of the faculty was called, and they have announced that on May 20, the class of '36 will graduate. My class wishes me to state that owing to a lightness in the head, caused by its gradual swelling during the four years, and a heaviness of the heart and other organs, caused by the thoughts of parting, these gifts it gives you, praying that you will believe they are given in a spirit of generosity. We, the class of '36, being about to leave this school, in full possession of sound mind, memory, and understanding, do make and publish this, our last will and testament. We leave to the Feshmen the advice, "Don't try dying, die trying." It served us in good stead. We leave to the Sophomores the faculty of getting out of trouble easily. May it help them! The the Juniors, the class of '37, we leave the subjoined list which will be recognized as property to which we do declare real and rightful owners. Lucy Holleman leaves her quiet and pleasing personality to Louise Lowe. Frances Buckner leaves her contagious and effervescent giggle to Bettie Mae Bradbury. Mary Waltman leaves her "taking ways," which may be well shown by her collection of souveniers, to Frances Irwin. Bates Mays didn't wake up in time to leave anything. Fred Holleman leaves his ability to absorb all necessary knowledge at class time, thus saving more energy, to Kathryn Riddle. Agnes Bradbury leaves "The Last Cry" regarding all the fashions of the day to Lucille Hodges. W. A. Sprague gives up the following expressions as lived up to by him during his four years: "All I have known, I've guessed at; all I didn't know, I made up," to Delia Johnson. Rayford Allen leaves his willingness to do the best he can (in case there is not much work to it) at all times to Homer McCune. Elsibeth Gallaway leaves a four-year record of intense study and learning to Jean Waltman. May she carry on the good work. Edna Mae Poston leaves her ability to stay out of mischief to Gussie Mae Ham. Joe Frank Bryan leaves his dignified poise and reliable qualities to Dudley Gage. Leroy Beddingfield leaves his love of sports and lack of enthusiasm to Homer McCune. Margie Bell Poston leaves her ability to appear before the public with the greatest of ease to Louise Riddle. Elizabeth Bradbury leaves her position as librarian to Johnson Walker. Lottie Woolverton wishes to leave to Thelma Lou Gage her meekness and quiet disposition. |
